Belarus: new greenhouse complex

Warsaw - The greenhouse company "Zhdanovichi" (created in 1959) located in the Minsk region will have the first harvest of domestic tomatoes before April. Vegetables are grown in the new complex of energy saving greenhouses built last year using Dutch technology on area of 7 hectares for almost 17 million ?.

New greenhouses, with a height of 5 m are equipped with the newest heating system which operates on natural gas, the shading system and system of gutters for planting tomatoes seedling half a meter above the ground. The total acreage of "Zhdanovichi" comprises more than 20 hectares, of which 14 hectares is used for tomatoes, 5,6 hectares for cucumbers and 0,8 hectares for tomato seedling production. According to local specialists, the productivity of tomatoes in 2006 was 51,9 kg/m2 and cucumbers - 72,6 k/m2. The total vegetable crop in 2006 exceeded 7597 MT. In 2007, the Belarussians want to harvest around 11 thousand MT of tomatoes and cucumbers.
