Clamp down on ethnic Poles in Belarus continues

The Belarusian authorities have taken over all Polish ethnic minority community centers in that country, leader of the outlawed Union of Poles in Belarus Andzelika Borys has said. Borys, speaking in the eastern Polish city of Bialystok, explained that they will now be turned into centers of Belarusian culture or ideology. The move was described as criminal by a former Polish embassy official in Belarus Marek Bucko, who had been expelled from Belarus under a false espionage accusation.

Poland's senate speaker Bogdan Borusewicz said that Warsaw will demand the return of the property of the Union of ethnic Poles. He noted that the buildings housing Polish ethnic community centers were bought with funds provided by Poland and then turned over to the Polish Union.
