Sudan Belarus to boost bilateral cooperation

Feb 7, 2006 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan and Belarus have signed a memo of understanding on boosting cooperation between the two countries in technological, scientific, agricultural and commercial fields.

In a joint news conference with the Belarusian Foreign Minister following the signing of the memo, Foreign Minister Lam Akol said that the memo is considered as basis for cooperation in all fields between the two countries, the state-run SUNA reported.

Akol pointed out that efforts are being exerted to make the Belarusian ambassador to Sudan to perform his tasks in Khartoum instead of Cairo during the coming days.

He added that the bilateral relations witness continuous progress besides joint stances on the level of international issues.

Meanwhile, the Belarusian Foreign Minister, Sergy Martinov, affirmed determination of his country to establish Belarusian Embassy in Khartoum to boost the level of cooperation.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister affirmed endeavour of his country to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries during the coming phase.

He pointed out that Belarus politically supports Sudan's stances in international arenas such as the United Nations, Oslo and Geneva.

The minister pointed out to his country's determination to strengthen cooperation in agricultural, transport, and technological and scientific domains.
