Viet Nam, Belarus should promote economic cooperation, say top legislators

Ha Noi, Feb. 24 (VNA) - Viet Nam and Belarus should further tap their great potential to boost economic cooperation on par with their political relations.

Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An and Belorussian House of Representatives Chairman Nikolayevich Konopliov made the remarks at a press briefing following their talks in Ha Noi on Feb. 24.

Chairman Konopliov spoke of his impression of the land and people of Viet Nam during his first visit to the country and said he believed that Viet Nam will continue to attain great achievements in its national industrialisation and modernisation process.

During their earlier talks, Chairman An said Viet Nam and Belarus have enjoyed fine political relations but their cooperation in economy, commerce and investment has yet to match with the two countries' potentials and desires.

The Vietnamese leader said he hopes that the relationship between Viet Nam and Belarus will attain a new height after Chairman Konopliov's visit.

Chairman An noted that Viet Nam always acknowledges Belarus's support and assistance. He also thanked the Belorussian State and people for their assistance to the Vietnamese community in Belarus.

Vietnamese who have been trained in Belarus have been working as an important bridge to promote the two countries' multi-faceted cooperation, he said.

For his part, Chairman Konopliov, who is also a special envoy of the Belorussian President, affirmed that Belarus attaches much importance to its relations with Viet Nam, considering it a strategic partner in Asia.

The two countries still have many opportunities for cooperation, he said, adding that Belarus wants to see more Vietnamese farm product exports to the country.

On this occasion, Chairman Konopliov invited Chairman An to visit Belarus at a convenient time.-Enditem
