Belarus denies violations during riots probe
Belarusian prosecutors denied on Monday allegations that a probe into post-election arrests in the country was "flawed."
"Before the case is sent to court, its materials will be presented to the Prosecutor General's Office to make sure the law has been followed," Prosecutor General Grigory Vasilevich told reporters.
Over 600 people were beaten and detained as riots followed the December 19 re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko in a disputed poll.
More than 30 people, including opposition candidates, journalists and human rights activists, are facing lengthy jail terms for causing "mass disturbances."
The European Parliament last week voted to impose severe sanctions, including a visa ban and asset freeze for Lukashenko and his top aides, and called for new elections.
EU ministers will meet on January 31 to decide whether the sanctions will go ahead.
Lukashenko was sworn in for a fourth term as Belarusian president last Friday.
