Russians arrested in Belarus maintain they're innocent

Russian citizens Artyom Breus and Ivan Gaponov, arrested in Belarus on December 30, maintain that they are innocent.

They are accused of involvement in mass riots that took place in Minsk following the presidential election.

After meeting with the arrested Russians, Vadim Gusev, a Russian Embassy advisor in Belarus, said that the prosecution has not provided any evidence that the two committed any unlawful acts.

In the opinion of the Embassy representative, the situation with the Russian citizens, who have been under arrest for an extended period of time "hardly accords with the allied nature of the relationship between Russia and Belarus".
