Debates on the Belarusian presidential elections due to start in the European Parliament on January 17th are expected to result in an unprecedentedly tough resolution, experts argue.
The latest developments in Minsk may entail sanctions against that country's top leadership, Novaya Gazeta Editor-in-Chief Dmitry Muratov said after examining the main provisions of the draft resolution.
According to him, apart from demanding the release of political prisoners, the members of the European Parliament may also insist on holding repeat presidential elections in Belarus.
