Britain regrets Minsk decision to expel OSCE

Great Britain regrets the decision of Belarus not to extend a mandate of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) after the EU watchdog criticized the recent presidential elections in the country.

The UK`s Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office David Lidington said that opposition rallies after the December 19 presidential elections in Belarus proved that the OSCE still has much to do to promote democracy in this country.

More than 600 people, including all opposition leaders, were detained when they took to the streets to protest Alexander Lukashenko`s re-election.
