BTRC takes the reins for Oslo!

The Belarussian broadcaster BTRC has reportedly announced its plans for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. According to Eurovision-Spain.com, the plans include a BTRC-organised selection for the entry to represent Belarus in the Contest, despite the ongoing programme 'Musical Court' being organised by ONT.

ONT had hoped to take over the broadcasting coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest from BTRC in 2010, and began televising the 'Musical Court' programme since last year, despite awaiting approval from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for EBU membership. It was later announced by the EBU that ONT had indeed been declined its bid to become a member, and therefore BTRC will broadcast the Contest, following an offer from the broadcaster to do so if ONT were declined.

BTRC have opened applications to represent Belarus, and will be open until February 1st, where candidates will register for an audition to perform before a jury elected by the broadcaster. The list of selected candidates is scheduled to be made public on February 25th, before the representative for Oslo is chosen in March through a televised programme.

It is unknown whether ONT will influence the Belarussian selection, due to the 'Musical Court' process which has been running since November, and had originally been due to select the Belarus representative.
