Kulczyk Holding to build 1000 MW power plant in Belarus at cost of EUR 1.5bn

Kulczyk Holding, an investment vehicle of one of the richest Poles Jan Kulczyk, and Belarusian power concern Bielenergo plan to build a 1000 MW hard coal-fired power plant in Zelwa, 70 km from the Polish border, the "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna" daily has announced.

Kulczyk Holding's spokeswoman Marta Wysocka said that the firm was also planning the so-called direct current inset on the Belarusian side, allowing to link the two country's grids. The plant is due to kick off in 2014 and will export energy to Poland. Its financing is to be organised by the Polish firm.

In October, Polish media reported that Kulczyk Holding was negotiating purchase of land in the commune of Pelpin in northern Poland as a site for a 1600 MW hard coal-fired power plant.
