Lithuania: President is going to invite Lukashenko and Medvedev to the commemoration event of independence

The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite is considering a possibility of inviting Presidents of neighbouring countries to the commemoration event of 20 years of the restoration of Lithuanian independence, including the countries that are not EU member states - Belarus and Russia.

"I am seriously considering the possibility of inviting presidents on the 11th of March. (:) There not so many presidents in the EU, and I am going to invite all of them. And I'm seriously considering the possibility of inviting presidents of such neighbouring countries, which are not EU member states", said the President at the interview to the Lithuanian Radio.

It should be noted that neither of Russians presidents have paid officials visits to Lithuania so far. But the Belarusian leader returned from Lithuania quite recently: he was invited in the autumn to the economic forum in Vilnius.

Dalia Grybauskaite considers that Lithuania should act in relations with Belarus in line with the European Union.

"Apparently, we are going to make use of the Belarus territory for importing electricity from the Ukraine, therefore Belarus for us is of great importance. Economic and cultural cooperation is promising. And the development of political dialogue of Lithuania with Belarus should follow the course of the internal EU policy - what guidelines the general EU policy will direct with regards to Belarus, Lithuania will observe the set framework in cooperation with Belarus", noted the President.
