Belarus - Government approves main social and economic targets for 2010

Main targets of the social and economic development of Belarus for 2010 have been approved by Resolution No.1740 of the Council of Ministers of 31 December 2009.

The document was adopted in pursuance of Decree No. 595 "On approving the most important parameters of the social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2010" of 7 December 2009.

Belarus' GDP is expected to increase by 11-13% in 2010. The industrial output is supposed to up by 10-12% this year. Capital investments are projected to soar by 23-25%, the export of commodities in current prices - by 29-30%. The growth of import of goods is forecast at the level of 19-20%, the trade deficit is expected to make up 50 million.

The materials-output ratio in the industry should reduce by 0.7-1.2%. The GDP energy intensity is projected to slim down by 8-10%.

Resolution No 1740 has also approved the list of 130 organizations, most significant for the development of the Belarusian economy. Among them is Gomelsteklo, the Belarusian Cement Works, Atlant, Amkodor, the Minsk Motor Works, the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, the Dzerzhinsky agricultural company, Babushkina Krynka dairy, companies affiliated with the Belneftekhim, Bellegprom, Belgospishcheprom, Belbiopharm and Bellesbumprom concerns.

The document introduces special monitoring over the fulfillment of the targets by the companies which have special significance for the economy of Belarus. The Economy Ministry, national government bodies, oblast executive committees and Minsk City Hall are expected to exercise close control over the implementation of the most important parameters of the social and economic development forecast of Belarus for 2010.
