Byelorussian Steel on expansion spree

Manama: Tue, 12 Jan 2010

Belarus' Byelorussian Steel Works, a leading producer of concast billets, hot rolled billets, blooms and steel hot rolled products, is on a markets-expansion and consolidation spree that includes the Middle East, the company said.

Byelorussian is in Bahrain for the Gulf Industry Fair (GIF) 2010 showcasing its range of hot rolled plain rounds, thermomechanically strengthened plain coils and reinforcing steel of die-rolled section in coils and rods and welded rolled section.

Between January and October 2009, Byelorussian expanded the destinations of its exports by 17 countries, supplying for the first time to Iraq, Iran, Israel, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan, Philippines, Afghanistan, Morocco and other MEA countries, the company said.

The company currently supplies its products to more than 50 countries globally, said Vladimir Chaus, head of marketing, and Buhrymau Alaiksundar, deputy chief of production of Byelorussian Steel Works.

Last July a new division for the production of steel fibre with a capacity of 600 tonnes per month was put into operation, the duo said.

"The company's continuous casting machine No.3 has just been modernized which allows its output to increase to one million tonnes per year and eliminates imbalance between steel melting and steel casting," they added.

The Byelorussian produces concast billets, hot rolled billets, blooms, steel hot rolled products made of quality carbon and alloyed structural steel and hot rolled profiled section of carbon spring and alloyed steel.

Also in the range are hot rolled plain rounds, thermomechanically strengthened plain coils and thermomechanically strengthened reinforcing steel of die-rolled section in coils and rods; welded rolled section; prestressed and non-prestressed rebars; rolled wire; welding wire; ordinary carbon steel for wire drawing, packing and other purposes; high-clean steel for tire cords and seamless pipes; steel fibre, zinc-coated wires and structural nails, among many other items.

A high point of 2009 was the accreditation it received from Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Akkreditierung mbH (DGA).

The accreditation acknowledges Byelorussian Steel Works' expertise in physical-mechanical test operations and chemical composition analysis of rebar and seamless pipes.

Obtaining the DGA accreditation certificate will expand substantially the company's export potential, the officials added.

As part of its expansion strategy, the Belarus steel company is all set to open a trade office in the UAE.
