KGB have not heard about Al-Qaeda threats against Belarus

According to the website of the Russian Institute of Religion and Policy, the most known terrorist organization, Al-Qaeda, has unexpectedly shown interest about Belarus. Threats addressed to Belarus and Ukraine on behalf of Al-Qaeda and Taliban movement have reportedly appeared on one of Arab language online forums. It is said in the statement that insurgents of Taliban movement are ready to strike against these two states. The text message is supplemented with unambiguous collages, Belarus and Ukraine on fire.

The chief of the Information and Public Relations Centre of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus, Valery Nadtochayev, refused to make comments on this report. He said he knew nothing about such reports. Journalists failed to receive a comment from the Security Council of Belarus either.

According to political analyst Andrei Fedorov there are simply no reasons for aggressive attitude by Al-Qaeda or Taliban to Belarus. Belarus authorities have made no public statements that might give grounds for similar threats by terrorist organizations, Fedorov adds.
