Russia, Belarus sign joint stimulus plan

Russia and Belarus have signed a joint plan that aims to minimize the consequences of the global financial meltdown, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists. He added that the document had been signed by Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Sergei Sidorsky.

Earlier, the Belarusian PM said following today's meeting of the Russia-Belarus Union State's council of ministers that the plan contained several different sections addressing all the problems that "Russia and Belarus are facing in the current financial and economic situation." He explained that the plan provided Russian and Belarusian producers with equal access to each country's market. Furthermore, an agreement has been reached for both nations' banking systems to fully service supplies to other markets. A decision to increase mutual leasing supplies has also been made, Sidorsky stated.
