Cuba and Belarus Strengthen Bilateral Relations

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (acn) The excellent state of the Cuba-Belarus bilateral bonds was highlighted on Tuesday during a meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Serguei Martynov, and Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Dagoberto Rodriguez, held in Minsk, the capital of that European country.

Rodriguez thanked Martynov for his government's support of the struggle of the Cuban people against the US blockade, and the help given to the archipelago to alleviate the damage caused by three hurricanes, Prensa Latina news agency reports.

In his position as host, the Foreign Minister of Belarus highlighted the work carried out by Cuba as leader of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NOAL), and thanked Havana for its permanent support of Minsk in the various multilateral forums.

Both sides reviewed the prospects of bilateral relations, with special emphasis on exchanges between chanceries and other areas of cooperation, like public health, medical services, transportation, and the training of leaders.

Martynov, along with Byelorussian President Alexander Lukashenko, attended the NOAL Summit held in Havana in September 2006. #
