Belarus: Meat Production to Grow by 6.4% in 2008

Meat production, including by-products of the first grade totaled to 459.08 thousand tons (up 6.4%) in 2008 in Belarus, as National Statistics Committee (Belstat) reports.

Beef production grew by 2.7% up to 163.781 thousand tons, pork production was up 3% to 151.732 thousand tons, and poultry production increased by 16.8% to 128.927 thousand tons.

Pursuant to Belstat data, sausage product manufacturing in 2008 grew by 10.5% to 243.121 thousand tons in comparison with 2007. Cooked sausage manufacturing amounted to 88.933 thousand tons (up 5.8% from 2007), half smoked sausage production totaled to 13.292 thousand tons (up 7.2%), raw smoked, raw air-dried and air-dried sausage output was 13.228 thousand tons (up 7.9%), and cooked smoked sausage production reached the rate of 8.751 thousand tons (up 21.1%).

Pork, beef, poultry and horse meat product manufacturing increased by 35.4% up to 33.429 thousand tons. Meat ready-to-cook product manufacturing totaled to 70.98 thousand tons (up 14.6% from 2007). Canned meat production grew by 10.8% to 33.8 millions of standard cans, and edible animal fat production was up 5.4% to 12.94 thousand tons.
