Belarus, Ukraine Presidents to hold negotiations in Chernigov January 20

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will make a working trip to Ukraine on January 20, BelTA learnt from the presidential press-service.

Alexander Lukashenko is going to meet with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko for one-on-one talks and then extended negotiations. The two sides are set to sign several bilateral documents.

The development of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation is the key topic of the negotiations. In 2008, Belarus-Ukraine mutual trade exceeded $5 billion while in 2003 it was $705,6 million. It is important to preserve the pace of the development of the trade and economic relations, in particular, by working out plans of joint actions in view of the global financial and economic crisis.

The agenda contains other issues concerning bilateral relations between Belarus and Ukraine. For example, simplification of the travel procedure for the Belarusian section of the road Slavutich - the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Mutually acceptable regulation of frontier problems meets the interests of both parties, and it should contribute to the development of transboundary and interregional cooperation between Belarus and Ukraine.
