Ahmadinejad: Iran for progress, independence of Belarus

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Saturday that Iran is for independence and progress of Belarus.

President Ahmadinejad told Belarus Foreign Minister Sergey Martynov that as two independent states on two strategic parts of the world shouldering grave roles, Iran and Belarus should try hard to remove obstacles to the promotion of the two-way relations.

Ahmadinejad said the Islamic Republic of Iran is eager to expand ties on a fair and fraternal basis with all countries, especially the independent states.

"Iran supports Belarus for its achievements in different fields and in that line, it would spare no efforts to have all-out cooperation with the country and share experience with it." He called for expansion of relations between Tehran and Minsk, especially in the banking and customs domains.

Martynov lauded the role and position of Iran and Belarus at different regional and international levels and said Minsk is for expanded ties and cooperation with Tehran in all spheres.

He referred to energy, oil and gas in particular, agriculture, mining, common market establishment and financial exchanges through formation of multilateral monetary funds as suitable grounds for mutual cooperation.

He repeated Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's invitation to Ahmadinejad to visit Minsk, which was welcomed by Iran's chief executive.
