Belarus increased 7% the pickled produce manufacturing in 2006

According to information provided by the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis of Belarus, the enterprises of all patterns of ownership produced around 218 mln. of standard jars of the pickled produce in 2006. This figure is 7% larger than the total production of pickled fruits and vegetables in 2005.

In particular, 76.7 mln. of standards jars were produced in 2006 that is 2% larger than the production in the previous year. The subordinate to the State Executive Committees enterprises have manufactured the greatest volumes of the product - 50.4 standard jars (1.2% more than in 2005) and the enterprises of Belarus Cooperative Union have produced 19.4 mln. of standard jars (14.6% more than in 2005).

It is worth mentioning that around 25 mln. of standard jars of canned tomatoes (9.6% more than in 2005) and 115.9 mln. of standard jars of canned fruits (9.6% more than in 2005) were produced in 2006 in Belarus. As a result, according to the data of the Ministry of Statistics, the producers had around 3 mln. of standard jars of canned vegetables in stock as of the beginning of 2007 (this volume is 4.7 times as large than the average monthly production).

The "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal has already informed that the production of pickled produce increased even more dramatically in Ukraine. Some producers have built up the pickled produce manufacturing 3-5 times. Also, new canneries continued emerging throughout the country; they took an opportunity to buy cheap vegetable raw materials in 2006. As a result, Ukrainian market witnessed the excessive supply of pickled vegetables; the situation was dramatized by the competition growth on Russian market and the considerable stocks of the imported pickled produce accumulated in 2005.
