Iran, Belarus to expand defense ties based on int'l laws

Belarus Defense Minister Leonid Maltsev declared here Wednesday that expansion of Iran-Belarus relations in military fields are in line with the national interests of his country and that it takes place according to international criteria and laws.

A statement issued by the Media Department of Belarus Ministry of Defense said that in its defense and military cooperation with Iran, Belarus will consider the content of the United Nations Security Council's anti-Iran Resolution 1737.

Turning to Maltsev's recent visit to Iran, it said that during his tour, Belarus defense minister met President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar.

At the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on major issues related to international security and the prospect of expansion of Iran-Belarus cooperation.

The statement also referred to the exchange of experience between the defense ministers of the two states on the structure of armed forces and said that they inked a memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

The inked document includes exchange of experts delegations, technical and military cooperation, collaboration in training the military staff and consultations between Iranian and Belarus specialists and defense ministers.
