Belarus to cut sugar supplies to Russia

RBC, 17.01.2007, Moscow 18:40:57.Belarus has introduced self-restriction on white sugar supplies to Russia, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev and Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Bambiza told journalists following a meeting in Moscow.

According to Gordeyev, both countries will observe these restrictions. Hence, Belarus will be able to supply 180,000 tonnes of white sugar to Russia in 2007 and 100,000 tonnes in 2008. Moreover, the transfer procedures over the border will become easier.

Meanwhile, Bambiza pointed out that this decision is in line with both countries' positions and Belarus took into account the fact that the sugar-beet harvest had been at a record-high in 2006 in Russia and Belarus.
