Lukashenko's criticism of NEGP confirms feasibility of project - Kremlin

MOSCOW/MINSK. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's negative statements over the construction of the North European Gas Pipeline (NEGP) confirm the necessity to implement the project, a source in the Kremlin told Interfax on Sunday.

"His words are good proof of the need to construct such a pipeline," the source said.

Earlier on Sunday Lukashenko criticized the NEGP project. "The construction of the pipeline in the Baltic Sea is the most stupid Russian project. No one knows what may happen with the pipeline, which lies on a pile of ammunition," he told journalists in Minsk.

In contrast, he said, the project to construct the second line of the Yamal-Europe pipeline through Belarus is real.
