Kremlin confirms oil talks, no word of compromise

MOSCOW, Jan 10 (Reuters) - The Kremlin confirmed on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin and Belarussian leader Alexander Lukhashenko discussed a halt to pipeline shipments of Russian oil to Europe, but the statement made no mention of a compromise.

"A number of issues of economic cooperation between Russia and Belarus were discussed during the conversation, including energy issues such as the problems of transit of Russian crude via the territory of Belarus," the statement said.

Lukashenko's office said earlier a compromise had been reached in the phone call, and that the prime ministers of both countries had been ordered to finalise proposals to end a trade dispute by Friday.
