U.S. says Russian oil stoppages reflect need for diversity of supplies and transit routes

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON: The dispute between Russia and Belarus over oil deliveries underscores the need for multiple sources of energy supplies and of transport routes, the State Department said Tuesday.

Spokesman Sean McCormack said recent history has highlighted the importance of this lesson.

"The ongoing issue between Russia and Belarus really puts it in high relief," he said.

The dispute with Belarus has led to a stoppage of Russian deliveries through that country, affecting supplies in Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
