PM: Radio for Belarus in coming weeks

Bialystok (PAP) - Poland wants to help Belarus by opening a radio station broadcasting to that country and by sending observers for the March 19 presidential elections, PM Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz said Friday.

Marcinkiewicz on a visit to Podlaskie province met with Alaksandr Milinkievich, a presidential candidate of the Belarussian opposition.

"It is very important that independent observers from various international organizations could take part, observe the election in Belarus," the PM said.

He stressed that aid for Belarus should be of long-term character and reach the most needing.

Milinkievich said that the biggest problem in Belarus is a lack of "true, independent information," and that the radio station "would be a very important factor."
